Workshops/accompanying

James runs a regular ongoing workshop at a home for those with autism and disabilities. He aims to inspire them and stimulate interaction through the medium of music. This can mean encouraging them to sing on cue, to participate with percussive instruments or whistles, with simple 'name the musical note' excercises, or to express themselves through dance and movement. He plays the piano and saxophone and introduces them to all manner of interesting and novel folk instruments along the way. He works alongside fellow troubadour Gareth Ackland who provides accoustic guitar accompaniment and vocals. Please contact by email or phone if you would like James to provide workshops for your organisation.

Composition/sound production

James has been composing continuously ever since he first began to play an instrument, and has now moved into the field of sound production. He has created music for fashion shows, children's theatre, and for live use with the bands he performs in. He is available to provide soundtracking for film/theatre/animation, or anything else that sounds like fun.

Performance

James is a performing musician, and currently plays the keyboard and Saxophone for theatrical Ska/Klezmer/Rock sensation The David Goo Variety Band. During his time with the band he has managed to secure the use of one of their songs on a national television adverting campaign (rightmove.com) which was aired repeatedly to millions of people across the country between 2008 and 2009. The band have also managed to sell out folk venue The Borderline on Charing Cross road, and tour the festival circuit every summer.

Teaching

James is a private piano teacher and offers lessons to pupils of all ages, either from his base in Forest Hill or at pupil's homes. He teaches those learning purely for fun, and for pupils who wish to progress through the graded ABRSM exams. Lessons are designed to be inspiring and fun as well as educational, and particularly for younger pupils, there is a focus on developing all aspects of musicality through educational games and exercises as well as formal practice. He regularly holds informal mini concerts in order to give pupils experience of playing infront of an audience.
